IDENTIFICATION PROJECTS AROUND THE WORLD

  • Tender for 'eHealth' solution in Bosnia - published.
  • Tender for 'National eID' and combined 'ePassport' project in Albania - published.
  • Morrocco's National eID card begins 'ramp up' of distribution to meet the 20 million target.
  • EU Commission awarded the eID/eGovernment funding proposal, 'STORK', in December 2007. A total of 15 EU member states are part of this project.
  • The updated EU regulation (update of 1030/2002) for electronic residence permit cards is expected in January 2008.
  • The EU begins a new program on RFID, with 'experts', to create guidelines for the FP7. The Workshop is scheduled for February 2008, Brussels.
  • China'ramps up' production of National eID Card to 20 million per month. Overall target is a cumulated number of 900 million, to be issued by the end of 2008.
  • The first USA airport has changed the amount of index finger data collection required for border control from two to ten.
  • RFI Tender for the national eID card in South Africa (RSA) published (HANIS 2).
  • RFP Tender for ePassport in Taiwan closed.
  • eHealth programs in Saudi Arabia and Philippines have been started.
  • Government Employee Card in Mexico has been specified - Pilot 1H 2008.
  • Iran: smart card for petrol station user identification (IFCP) has reached 20million pieces.
  • Match-on-Card is now in 5 countries on their national eID cards (Thailand, Spain, Portugal, UAE, Qatar).
  • Event on ePass EAC was running in Dublin/Ireland on 26th to 28th November; next BIG-interoperability test is scheduled for Sept. 08.
  • EU Commission will publish an overwork on the regulation 1030/2002 soon for the Residence Permit Card. This is based on smart card technology combined with ICAO biometrics. This brings a second wave of digital ID documents besides the ePassport into 27 member states by regulation.
  • This spring, Portugal started an eGovernment service card. By the end of this year, around 400 thousand cards will be in circulation. These cards have taken over 5 functions in one card.
  • Italy has published a tender on an overworked specification for their national eID Card (C.I.E.) in Q3/2007.
  • Korea and Taiwan have published a tender for ePassport. Globally, 42 countries have such ePass issuing processes in progress.
  • Nigeria and Tanzania have published RFPs on national eID cards, with multi-application functionality.
  • UK´s Ministry of Transport (DVLA) announced in spring this year the first filed trial test on e-Driving License. This program should start in 2008.
  • Germany has started with the first filed trial for the next generation eHealth card, called eGK. A new specification is in progress.
  • The USA has started this year with the roll out of the TWIC card.
  • By the end of the year, China will have around 600 million national eCards in circulation. This program was started in 2004.
  • This year Japan started their smokers card program, which needs more than 20 million pieces and the e-Driving License Program, which ramps up to more than 15 million pieces/year, until 2009.
